How Browser-Based PDF Processing Protects Privacy

Updated July 27, 2026 · By LocallyPDF

A local browser tool reads selected file bytes into memory and performs the operation with application code running on the device. For LocallyPDF workflows marked local, the selected document is not sent to a LocallyPDF file-processing server.

Local processing reduces one common exposure path, but it is not an absolute security guarantee. Browser extensions, managed-device software, downloaded-file synchronization, analytics configuration, and an untrusted operating system remain outside the PDF tool itself.

OCR can require model or language asset downloads. Those application resources are different from the document being processed, but they mean the first OCR run may require a network connection.

Use an updated browser, review extensions, keep original files, and verify output before distribution. Refreshing or closing the page clears in-memory working data; downloaded outputs remain wherever the browser saves them.
